Maggie Mamen
Director
Maggie arrived in Canada in 1971 from her native London, UK, to join her soon-to-be husband in Ottawa. She completed her university studies at the same time as having their three children, trained as a clinical psychologist at CHEO, was a sessional lecturer at Carleton, worked for the former Carleton Board of Education, and established a multi-disciplinary private practice in 1990 where she still works part-time. She was appointed a member of the Board of Examiners in Psychology in 1992, and was the first elected President of the newly-formed College of Psychologists of Ontario, where she still serves on the Discipline Committee and as Chair of Oral Examination teams. She is the author of four books, including The Pampered Child Syndrome, which has been published in several languages and is still a hotly requested topic for presentations and professional development activities. Her professional practice now focuses exclusively on parent consultation and advocacy, with the belief that confident, caring parenting is the root of children’s physical and emotional wellness. Â
Â
Volunteer interests have included several board memberships, from daycare to gymnastics to the Learning Disabilities Association of Ottawa-Carleton, and being part of a number of professional task forces.Â

In her spare time, Maggie enjoys being outdoors near water, cross-country skiing, kayaking, swimming, golfing, biking and hiking. She loves to read, do crosswords, and play kitchen bridge. Travel has always been a passion, whether on foot or by bike, trains, boats and planes, and she’s always looking for new horizons. She has four grandchildren, aged 10-17, and just loves being a Nana. She is a crazy dog lady, having lived with a series of really special characters, but, having lost her spirit animal a year ago, now dog-sits for family and friends. Â
