Erin Hayward-McBane, one of our Child Development Specialist, has her Bachelor of Education from the Queen’s-Trent Concurrent education program and a B.A (Honours) from Trent University. Erin has over 8 years experience as an educator in a variety of not-for-profit settings as an outreach worker, senior youth worker, caregiver, volunteer coordinator, and as an instructor for babysitting and home alone courses. She is a certified Infant Massage Instructor from the Liddlekidz Foundation. She is also a Practice Change Champion for Ottawa with the Infant and Early Mental Health Initiative. Erin’s focus on child development is evident, both in her interactions with children, and as a resource for parents and caregivers.
Erin runs the Parent Resource Centre’s onsite playgroups, including a baby drop-in for infants 0-18 months. She brings a very high level of enthusiasm and fun to her programs, and engages children, parents and caregivers alike. Erin not only loves working with the children but she loves to build relationships with the entire families. Erin believes in and promotes play-based learning, and encourages the children’s curiosity and sense of discovery by regularly modifying the set up of the play area to create new learning experiences.
Erin is also a mother to two beautiful children, Cara 4 and Gavin 1. She loves to share her experiences of raising her children with other parents. She is also excited about her role in managing the Parent Resource Centre’s Toy Lending Library; an important resource for families. Every child learns and develops differently and through Erin, families receive toy recommendations, to ensure optimal success for the children she serves.
